The eyes in a person with Pfeiffer Syndrome appear large due to thefusing together prematurely. Sometimes the eyelids may not close all the way. Some issues with shallow eye sockets include:
- Dry eyes: When the eyelids don’t close all the way the eyes can dry and become itchy and uncomfortable.
- Cornea exposure: When the eyelids don’t close all the way the eyes can dry, scratch, and damage the cornea.
- Eyes may pop out of their socket:We believe this is very uncommon, but has happened in at least one case.
Lubricating eye drops during the day, and ointment at night can help treat dry eyes and protect the cornea. In the unlikely event that an eye falls out of its socket, stitches can be placed to help keep the eye in place.
